Yoga, in its original and traditional form, was always taught one-on- one, based on the particular needs and constitution of the student. Similarly, yoga therapy is used for the treatment of imbalances-- physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual-- customized to meet the needs of the individual.
In creating a Yoga Therapy program, we utilize the following yogic tools:
- Ayurveda ('The Science of Life')
- Hatha Yoga
- Asana
- Pranayama
- Meditation
- Mantra
- Mudras
- Bandhas
- Contemplation/Inquiry (Jhana Yoga)
- Devotion (Bhakti Yoga)
- Aromatherapy
- Referrals to specific body work/treatment specialists when appropriate
Process
An initial consultation of 1.5-2 hours includes a thorough assessment of your life circumstances (current and former) and any challenges you are working with. Based upon this information, a personalized program is developed, which will include health education and a practice that best suits your situation. A minimum of one follow up session is required. If you're time is limited (for instance, if you are traveling) you will be given the program in a written format to refer back to and practice with. Remember that this takes time and requires your full commitment and gentle dedication.
